Aabenraa, Connex 236

Introduction

This oddity and its friends arrived in 1998 when Linjebuss (now Connex) shipped over a hundred used buses from Copenhagen after winning a large amount of routes. Copenhagen was transitioning to buses using alternative fuels, so they had diesel buses to spare. Most of the buses had bodywork made by Säffle, but 12 of these Aabenraas were also included. The buses wre built in 1994 and 1995 and the exact model name is unknown. Most of these were shipped back to Denmark in 2000, but at least two have stayed in the region.

Some people find these buses ugly, but the design does have a certain minimalist charm. The seating arrangement is otherwise normal for a 12-metre bus, except that the frontmost seats have been left out. The space is occupied by a box that probably houses the fuel tank. The seats behind the front wheels gace each other and are attached directly to the floor without platforms. All of the seats have notably high backs and have a slightly odd design. The back part of the bus is very high, which causes a very low window line at the back. This creates a slightly cramped feel inside the bus even though the seats are relatively spacious. The interior could be compared to that of an airplane with its plastic walls and low windows. , muoviseinineen ja mataline ikkunoineen.

More information about this model is available on the pages of the Danish Busfronten society. In Danish of course.
