HKL-bussillikenne

HKL-bussiliikenne (HKL-buses) is the bus operating part of HKL, the Helsinki City Traffic Company. HKL-buses used to drive nearly all the internal Helsinki routes, but now bidding has started and HKL-buses is only one of the competitors. Accordingly HKL-buses has started bidding for regional routes and now operates the route 731 for example.

HKL-buses currently owns over 360 buses. Specialities include 24 natural gas powred City U's (1998&1999), a prototype gas powered midibus by Valmet (1994, on the Herttoniemi service route) and a Scania-DAB fully low floored midibus (1998, on the Kontula service route).

At the moment HKL-buses is the editors choice for the best operator in the region. The decision is based on the buses used and the level of service offered, which is judged with the help of some friends and our personal experiences.

At the moment HKL operates most of the internal Helsinki routes and a host of regional routes. The situation may well change as the bidding progresses in Helsinki.
